1. OBJECTIVES & GRANTS

Randolph Evans Memorial Awards are designated for Brooklyn youth of all races, religious and national origins who are graduating seniors. All applicants must have been accepted to an accredited college for the fall semester. The Board of Directors will award 5 unrestricted grants in the amount of $1,000 per student in support of the recipient’s educational needs.

 

2. FINANCIAL NEED

The applicant must demonstrate financial need by submitting a copy of his or her parent(s) tax returns for the previous year, and/or a copy of a W2 form or pay stubs. If the applicant is claimed as independent by his/her parent’s copy of the parents’ tax returns must accompany the application, and any other information that will confirm the applicants independence.

 

3. PERSONAL INTERVIEW & ESSAY

All applicants will be required to appear in person before the scholarship screening committee for a in person or virtual interview with the screening committee. Prior to the interview all applicants must complete a 500 word essay.


 

4. TRANSCRIPT & LETTERS OF RECOMMENDATION

At the time of the interview the applicant should present an official letter of acceptance to an accredited college admission. In addition, an official copy of the student’s transcript from the school must be submitted directly to the board of directors, two (2) letters of recommendation are required, one (1) from a high school official (teacher or guidance counselor) and one (1) from a political leader, community activist, minister, or employer who can attest to the applicant’s moral character and involvement in community affairs.

 

5. NOTIFICATION OF AWARD

Those students who are selected to receive the award will be notified either by email or telephone. Awards will be made in two installments at the Annual Awards Ceremony given in memory of Randolph Evans. The first half of the award will be given at the ceremony following graduation from high school and the second half upon successful completion of the first year of college and when evidence of grades earned and registration for the second year had been documented.

 

6. APPLICATION DEADLINE

The application deadline is May 20th, 2022. Incomplete and late applications will not be accepted.

 

7. ORIENTATION OF AWARDEES

An orientation session is held each year within awardees meet members of the board of directors as well as fellow awardees. This gathering also serves as a means to reiterate the significance of the Randolph Evans Memorial Scholarship and to acquaint the awardees with the time and date of the event as well as to encourage each awardee to invite friends and family to be present at the awards ceremony. In addition, students chosen are encouraged to participate in enhancing the annual souvenir journal in which all award recipients are highlighted.

 

8. ANNUAL AWARDS CEREMONY

The award is given at a ceremony held on the last Saturday in June of each year. All awardees must be present to receive the award.

 

9. ALUMNI ASSOCIATION

All individuals who are recipients of the Randolph Evans Memorial Scholarship automatically become members of the Randolph Evans Memorial Scholarship Alumni Association and are encouraged to participate in the activities of the association.
